PAH'S AID IN YEMEN

In Yemen, a devastating conflict has been going on since 2014. Over 21.6 million people, i.e. two-thirds of the country’s population, are in need of humanitarian aid. PAH has been carrying out activities aimed primarily at the most vulnerable groups: children, the elderly and women.

The situation in Yemen is considered one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters. The long-term conflict, the ensuing dire economic situation, destroyed infrastructure and natural disasters challenged the country’s inhabitants with numerous problems. More than 4.5 million people had to leave their homes and seek refuge in camps for internally displaced people. Those most in need of support are people who live in hard-to-reach regions, children, the elderly, and women.

We have been on site since 2019. So far, we have been involved primarily in activities related to health care in response to major problems with access to this type of services. We delivered water, as well as equipment, medicines, dressings, supplies and laboratory reagents to hospitals and clinics. We also provided financial benefits for doctors, nurses and midwives, and trained local midwives.

Moreover, we carried out activities aimed at limiting the spread of diseases and ensuring access to clean water, such as repairing latrines, renovating water supply and sewage installations (including repairing the water supply and sewage system in one of the districts of the city of Aden), and conducting educational campaigns.

In addition, as part of our activities in the education sector, we provided financial and material assistance to students and teachers, built classrooms and provided the necessary equipment and educational materials.

We also implemented immediate actions, such as building over 300 shelters for people who lost their homes as a result of the flood in 2022. Currently, we are mainly focused on coordinating the operation of camps for internally displaced persons in the Ma’rib region.
